Bill Shannon [US]
GOING FULL CHUCKY: The Politics of Biohacking, Neuroplasticity, and the Survival of the Species, 2021.
Ink drawings.

Bill Shannon’s webcomic takes on questions of emerging technologies and capitalism. Shannon is a multidisciplinary artist whose pieces often pose important questions about how we relate to each other and the world, and about the role that technology plays in mediating those relations. He often performs in public spaces, he is known for his development of the Shannon Technique, a movement vocabulary developed from his own experience using crutches. This time, however, Bill’s medium of choice is the webcomic. In a spirit similar to that of his performances, Shannon’s work tests limits: in this case the limits of science and ethics in an alternative future where nanobots change billionaires’ neurology for the collective good of humanity.

Bill Shannon is an interdisciplinary artist and maker who explores body-centric work through video installation, sculpture, linguistics, sociology, choreography, dance, and politics. His contributions to dance include a movement vocabulary evolved through his creative use of crutches as a child after the discovery of a physical disability that affected his ability to bear weight in his hips.
